The debate is turning old and the jury is still out…but the fact is, its summer and these are girls. How can we not expect a combination of summer, girls and spaghetti tops? If this, according to conservatives is skin show…do the girls care! This summer, tubes, tank tops and spaghettis are making a huge fashion statement. And while the city girls are getting at the markets shopping for their favourite colours, they argue, "Times have changed, spaghettis are in vogue again.
People need to learn to respect that it's the girl’s own skin that she's showing off."
Says Kannika Jain, a college student, "Although times have really changed as the western culture has come into our country and there is more exposure to modernity, it is still considered un-cool to show off your skin or body." But while skeptics are doing their job at trying to keep off skin, spaghettis are getting bolder and now leopard printed tops, teamed with plain coloured lowers, are inundating the market.
With the mercury rising sharply and sun shining mercilessly, these flimsy clothing are not just fashionably cool but also comfortable. But have times really changed enough to tolerate such clothing, or even walking around the streets flaunting sleeveless tops calls for trouble?
"Simply put an exclamation mark instead of a question mark," is how Jasleen Malhi, a student, would like to respond. Adds Disha Sareen, "I think it finally is time to follow your own wishes and the fashion trends instead of thinking and worrying about what the world is thinking about you."
According to Nikita Nibber, it's all about wearing the right clothes at the right time. "College is set to start shortly and it is a good time to start shopping. You just have to remember that not every short dress is for college wear." So, till the sun is out, go play with colours, styles and silhouettes and let not anyone stop you from wearing your style funda, especially not the sun and the skeptics!
